She loves color and she let it show

The painting of Pata Paris occupies a field of tension between abstraction and figuration. Her works emerge from the interplay of color, structure, and gestural movement. Occasional figurative references remain in a somnambulant state of suspension. They suggest themselves only to dissolve again at the same time. In this way, the paintings become independent experiential spaces. Their effect is immediate and sensual, without allowing themselves to be confined to a single, definitive reading.

A distinctive feature of her work is its expressive use of color. Expansive monochromatic fields of color, in which figurative suggestions occasionally emerge, alternate with richly layered canvases built up from multiple overlapping tones, creating pictorial spaces of great physical presence and depth. The colors develop a force of their own, conveying atmosphere and emotion.

A sense of movement and transition, of hovering and taking concrete form, of condensation and renewed rupture, is often present in the works. These experiential spaces are also reflected in the titles of the paintings. They send out poetic impulses without prescribing a precise meaning. Between figurative suggestion and abstract sensation, a productive ambiguity emerges.

Pata Paris’ work can be situated within a tradition of expressive and gestural painting without being confined to Informalism or Informel abstraction. Her paintings translate her relationship to the world into imaginary landscapes, animal-like creatures, and spiritual apparitions. The result is a body of paintings in which external perception and inner sensation overlap.

One of the qualities of Pata Paris’ painting lies in its ability to draw the greatest possible intensity from the very moment of the creative process. Her works invite viewers to engage with the resonances of color and open pictorial spaces, and to continually rediscover the associations that emerge through their own act of looking.
